About the Role
The Trailer Technician is a critical role in our fleet operation, responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of trailers, including chemical tankers, pneumatic trailers, dump trailers, and other specialized units. We are committed to technician development and offer a structured leveling system (Apprentice, Journeyman, and Lead/Diagnostic Tech) that provides a clear growth path within our team.

Technician Levels & Responsibilities
- Apprentice Technician (Entry-Level)
- Experience: 1-3 years in a maintenance or technician role, OR completion of a trade school program, OR a combination of both
- Key Responsibilities: Assist senior technicians with preventative maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs
- Learn and use basic diagnostic tools and repair procedures for trailer systems
- Perform basic repairs, including brakes, lights, air systems, and suspensions
- Assist in trailer inspections and DOT compliance checks under supervision
- Develop a strong understanding of shop safety protocols and procedures
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace
- Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills
- Journeyman Technician (Mid-Level)
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in trailer repair, fleet maintenance, or a related field
- Key Responsibilities: Perform advanced maintenance and repair work independently, including suspensions, landing gear, air systems, and electrical systems
- Diagnose trailer mechanical and electrical issues, including ABS faults and air brake systems
- Conduct VITK inspections and ensure compliance with DOT regulations
- Work on pneumatic, hydraulic, and pressurized tanker systems, including dump trailer hydraulics and air-operated valves
- Assist in mentoring and training Apprentice Technicians
- Use diagnostic software and testing tools to troubleshoot issues
- Collaborate with the Parts Supervisor to ensure necessary components are ordered and available
- Maintain detailed work orders and service records
- Lead/Diagnostic Technician (Senior-Level) Experience: 5+ years of experience with chemical tankers, pneumatic trailers, dump trailers, or specialized trailer repair. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform complex diagnostics and in-depth repairs on chemical tankers, pneumatic trailers, dump trailers, and specialized trailers
- Conduct thorough VITK inspections and lead compliance efforts for regulatory inspections
- Diagnose and repair ball valves, pumps, flow meters, and measurement/calibration systems used in specialized trailers
- Work with pressurized and pneumatic tanker systems, ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards
- Lead troubleshooting efforts on advanced electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic failures
- Provide training and mentorship to Journeyman and Apprentice Technicians, developing the next generation of skilled trailer techs
- Work closely with fleet management and OEM support teams to resolve complex repair cases
- Ensure all repairs meet safety, compliance, and fleet reliability standards

Required Qualifications
- Apprentice: 1-3 years of experience OR trade school OR a combination of both
- Journeyman: 3+ years of hands-on experience in trailer repair or a related field
- Lead/Diagnostic: 5+ years of experience with chemical tankers, pneumatic trailers, dump trailers, or specialized trailer repairs
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair trailer mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency
- Basic computer skills for diagnostics and record-keeping
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in various shop conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- ASE or OEM certifications (Journeyman and Lead levels)
- Experience with ball valves, pumps, flow meters, and calibration systems
- CDL or ability to obtain one (preferred for Lead/Diagnostic Technicians)
- Experience conducting VITK inspections and DOT compliance reviews
